Behind the numbers & letters…
Back in 1999, the government changed the old registration plate format, where the numbers would be changed once a year, to being changed twice a year: 1st March and 1st September each year.
Number plates are made up of 3 sections – which tells you:
- Local memory tag: The first two letters show where the vehicle was registered. The first represents the region and the second a DVLA local office.
- Age identifier: The two numbers in the middle show the age of the vehicle down to a six month period – March to August or September to February.
- Random letters: The last three letters are random and give the car a unique identity.
The most obvious benefit of getting a car with a new 66 registration plate is that you’ll be able to let the world know that your new car is as shiny and as fresh as it can possible be. As well as that, a recent number plate can also seriously improve your resale value if you choose to sell it on after a short period of time.
The plate change also brings excitement for those wanting a personalized number plate. A big part of the allure of this year’s plates is the fact that the number 66 can faithfully represent the letters “GG”.
