Hyundai RN30 Concept Unveiled

Hyundai adds another model to its high-performance N Concept range – the RN30 Concept.

Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, the RN30 concept is the latest model in Hyundai’s high-performance line-up.  Once again, it draws on their motorsport success and demonstrates their passion for creating thrilling driving experiences.  First launched at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Hyundai N series has already had 3 models in its line-up – the N2025 Vision Gran Turismo, RM15 and RM16 concepts.  The 4th addition to the series has been developed collaboratively with Hyundai Motorsport (HMSG, Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC) and Hyundai’s Motor’s Performance Development & High Performance Vehicle Division.

“RN30 embodies the concept of a strong, high-performance car that brings dynamic, sporty driving.  Soon to evolve into our first N model, the RN30 is inspired by our passion to provide a high-performance car that everybody can enjoy effortlessly.  We have drawn on our technical expertise…to deliver emotional delight through an engaging blend of performance and control, the goal Hyundai’s N strives to achieve in future performance models”

– Albert Biermann, Head of Vehicle Test & High Performance Development for Hyundai Motor

High performance for a thrilling driving experience

Under the hood, the RN30 Concept has a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with an upgraded turbo to increase thrust.  The result is a whopping 380PS and a maximum torque of 46kgf.m.  This impressive level of torque is managed by a wet-type dual-clutch transmission (DCT), which delivers quick, responsive gear changes.  In combination with rev-matching in sport mode, the RN30 provides speedy, accurate engine speed revision when shifting gears.  On top of this, the RN30 has an all-wheel drive system to provide precision driving.

The RN30 concept also creates a thrilling driving environment with the Electronic Variable Exhaust system.  This provides a strong exhaust sound to combine with the visceral sensations produced during rapid acceleration.

Safety and control are also key to creating the thrilling driving experience Hyundai are aiming for.   The electronic limited-slip differential system (eLSD) measures the driving force of the tyres, ensuring each wheel receives sufficient torque.  As a result, skidding is reduced and cornering is faster and more precise.  Inside the cabin, the RN30 is fitted with bucket seats and an integrated roll cage to provide safety and support to the driver.

Striking, lightweight and aerodynamic

In order to reduce weight, the RN30 concept is made from all-new high performance plastic materials.  This makes the car light, durable and environmentally friendly.  Hyundai have also worked at lowering the RN30’s centre of gravity by removing redundant parts and positioning heavier parts as low as possible.

The basic Hyundai i30 silhouette has been adapted to have a lower, wider stance.  The RN30 sits 84mm lower than the i30, and has is 30mm wider.  Additional aerodynamic enhancements have also been made.  ‘Floating’ fenders and side splitters combine to make the car feel pulled down onto the track.

Further design features have been included to create a striking and distinctive look.  Hyundai’s signature cascading grille combines with high-tech headlights and daytime running lights to create an aggressive front.  At the rear, a large spoiler, which is penetrated by a fin placed along the roof’s centre, and ceramic twin exhaust pipes balance out with the front design.  Finally, the 19″ lightweight alloy wheels complete a striking profile.

Creating a cinematic driving experience

Not satisfied with simply creating a thrilling experience for drivers, the RN30 concept also features image-stabilising gimbal cameras attached to each A-pillar, as well as an outside camera attached to the centre fin.  With these camera’s drivers can create their own professional-looking short films to share their experience with friends.

Unfortunately, the RN30 is just s concept car, but T W White and Sons offer a wide range of used Hyundai vehicles.  To find out more, contact our sales team in Weybridge, Surrey.
