The Suzuki iV-4 compact off-roader will make its world debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the Japanese car manufacturer has confirmed.
Suzuki has strongly hinted that this is more than just a one-off motor show prototype, too.
It disclosed that the Suzuki iV-4 is a “concept model heralding a compact SUV from Suzuki,” and is an “indication of the direction which will be taken with the future model to be added to the company’s renowned SUV line-up.”
It’ll sit alongside the new Suzuki SX4 S-Cross crossover, which debuted as a concept itself just under 12 months ago at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
This means a smaller Suzuki off-roader could be with us in as little as 18 months, if the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross’ timings from drawing board to production reality are anything to go by.
The Suzuki iV-4 has been developed under the “Grab your field” theme, with the concept car embodying the ruggedness of an SUV.
It’s also inherited many traditional Suzuki styling cues and design details present across the current range – the clamshell shaped bonnet and the front grille divided into five separate elements show this, while the overall shape “conveys a sense of modernity and innovativeness”, according to the Japanese carmaker.
Even from the shadowy teaser images, we can see the front end looks sharp and crisp, with some nice LED headlight treatment giving the iV-4 its own spectacular identity.
The Suzuki iV-4 looks chunky from the side, too, with a slightly tail-up stance giving a very sporting impression indeed.
Given the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross’ likeness to its motor show concept car, it bodes well for the iV-4 and the eventual production version.
It also means the Suzuki range should be strong than ever. A new small SUV offering will compliment the larger Suzuki SX4 S-Cross off-roader, the recently announced Suzuki Swift 4×4 and the rest of the Suzuki range – including the popular Swift supermini, Splash mini-MPV and Alto city car.
What do you think of the new Suzuki iV-4 from these initial images? Like the chunky looks and the bold detailing? Would you be interested in a smaller Suzuki 4×4?
