With its zero-VAT price of £5,999 extended until the end of March 2013 the Suzuki Alto SZ model marks a bargain as a cheap to buy and cheap to run city car.
The Suzuki Alto’s punchy 68hp 1.0-litre engine means nippy performance around town and more than adequate go on the open roads, with 0-62mph coming up in a respectable 13.5 seconds.
The strong point of the Alto city car’s powertrain is its efficiency however, helping save you money in built-up urban environments.
It returns amazing fuel economy of 65.7mpg combined – helping cut spending at the pumps – and with CO2 emissions of 99g/km it also qualifies for free road tax.
Thanks to the new Variable Valve Timing engine reducing emissions to under 100g/km CO2 it means Suzuki Alto owners could also save a further £2,600 per year if driving into the London Congestion Charge zone everyday when compared with a 100g/km-plus vehicle.
And when you get to the city the Suzuki Alto will be a wonderfully willing partner. Diminutive dimensions (the Alto is just 3.5m long and 1.6m wide) and a turning circle of only 9 metres mean it’ll be brilliantly manoeuvrable and great visibility ensures it’ll be easy to park.
The Suzuki Alto isn’t just for the city, however. With an MP3 compatible CD player, electric front windows and central locking fitted as standard in SZ spec the car boasts some decent equipment for comfort and convenience on longer journeys.
And although the Suzuki Alto SZ is cheap safety has not been compromised – ABS with Electronic Brake force Distribution, Brake Assist, Suzuki’s Electronic Stability Programme, driver and front passenger airbags and ISOFIX seat mounts all features among the standard kit list.
