Delivering fuel economy of up to 72.4mpg with as little as 104g/km CO2 emissions, the Mazda 6 beat off the competition thanks to its “looks, economy and clever technology,” according to the judges.
This marks the Mazda 6 family’s ninth award in the UK and 189th trophy since its launch – an incredible result and proof that Mazda’s Skyactiv approach to building cars is getting results.
Devised by The Green Organisation, judged by journalists from the Midland Group of Motoring Writers and presented to Mazda in the House of Commons, MGMW chairman Ian Donaldson outlined:
“This year’s winner is the new Mazda 6, a scar whose looks and economy clearly impressed the judges. This is a typically well-rounded car from Mazda, employing some clever technology to keep the petrol and diesel engine as viable power sources for decades to come.”
Not only is the Mazda 6 amazingly efficient, it’s a brilliant performer and superbly practical, too, with 36 variants in both saloon and Tourer estate body styles.
Opt for the 175hp 2.2-litre turbodiesel model and you’ll be able to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 7.9 seconds.
With 483 litres of boot space in the saloon and a cavernous 506 litres in the estate, it’s great for families as well, adapting to just about anything life can throw at you.
Mazda UK sales director, Peter Allibon:
“Mazda’s ‘defy convention’ approach to automotive design and engineering has enabled us to create award-winning vehicles like the new Mazda 6 that delivers phenomenal customer benefits through our unique Skyactiv technology.
“We are delighted that the improved fuel economy and reduced emissions delivered by this genuinely ground-breaking technology has been acknowledged by the Green Apple Award 2013 and that we have beaten many petrol/hybrid competitors, such as the Vauxhall Ampera, in taking this award.”
Pricing for the Mazda 6 range begins at £19,595, so it’s great value too. Why not drop into to our Mazda showrooms at Bookham, Surrey or Orpington, Kent this weekend and see for yourself, or contact our sales team on 0844 539 6753 for more information.
