We know how good the new Mazda 3 is to drive, how frugal it is to run and how reliable and safe it is for peace of mind, but the new Japanese hatchback is now delivering even more great news for company car buyers and private owners alike.
Company car drivers looking to cut their benefit-in kind tax outgoings will be pleased by the efficiency – according to Mazda the new Mazda 3 emits less CO2 than the Audi A3. BMW X1 and Volkswagen Golf.
It also beats its mainstream rivals in the form of the Ford Focus, Hyundai i30, Honda Civic, Toyota Auris and Vauxhall Astra.
In fact, it’s a success story across the board for the new Mazda 3, retaining a sensational proportion of its new value after three years / 60,000miles.
With an average residual value of 37% – only three percentage points behind the more expensive Volkswagen Golf and a massive 11 percentage points ahead of the Renault Megane according to January data from CAP Automotive.
For many people the VW Golf is very much the benchmark, but the Mazda 3 actually exceeds it in a number of significant areas. For example, the 2014 Mazda 3 has an average depreciation forecast of £12,618.
That class-leading total for the usual three years or 60,000 miles, is well ahead of the Golf’s £14,263.
With CO2 emissions as low as 104g/km from the 150hp 2.2-litre turbodiesel and as low as 119g/km CO2 for the petrol line-up, it means benefit-in-kind rates are fantastic.
For 2014/2015 the petrol engine range starts at just £42 a month for the basic 20% rate tax payer, or £85 for the higher rate 40% tax payer – both for the entry-level 119g/km CO2 100hp SE model.
That rises only slightly for the diesel engine range to £48 and £96 respectively for the 150hp SE diesel emitting just 104g/km CO2.
Mazda head of fleet, Steve Tomlinson, on the Mazda 3’s super all-round ability:
“All-new Mazda 3 delivers fantastic value to fleet managers in terms of cost reduction, which is a key contributor to all-important whole life cost figures on which many businesses base their company car choice lists.
“Meanwhile, all company car drivers are looking to reduce their tax bills and free up cash to meet other expenditure. The all-new Mazda 3 delivers class-leading CO2 emissions with no compromise on performance giving a real alternative to the traditional in both the C and C/D segments.”
