Friday Focus: Mazda cuts CO2 to help for you

Mazda has been bullish about its efficiency claims as part of its new Skyactiv model range – and looking at the numbers, who can blame the Japanese manufacturer?

We’ve zeroed in on the firm’s Skyactiv technology as part of our Friday Focus before, but this time we’re looking at the numbers and what it means for drivers where it matters: they’re bank balance.

Whether you’re a company car driver of a private vehicle user, running a car in the modern age of motoring isn’t cheap.

That’s why the brand is cutting your costs as far as possible by improving efficiency and offering some great deals across the range.

Take the new Mazda 3 – the 150hp 2.2-litre turbodiesel Skyactiv-D engine returns an amazing 72.4mpg combined with just 104/km CO2 emissions. And alongside being the most efficient engine option in the range, it’s also the fastest, accelerating from 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds.

This just proves you can have your cake and eat it. Performance and efficiency go hand-in-hand.

The same is true with the Mazda 6 And Mazda CX5 – offering a best of 72.4mpg with 104g/km CO2 in the former, the 150hp 2.2 Skyactiv-D model accelerates from 0-62mph in 9.0 seconds.

The latter – Mazda’s popular crossover model – also returns amazing fuel efficiency, so opting for a slightly bigger car with a commanding 4×4 driving position needn’t mean you have to pay more in fuel.

Like its siblings, the 2.2-litre 150hp diesel Mazda CX5 offers buyers an incredible 61.4mpg combined with 119g/km CO2 – nothing in its class comes close.

This means emissions-based road tax and company car tax are cut to a minimum, and coupled to extremely competitive P11D values for the latter, it means your monthly outgoings will be cut with a Mazda.

Analyse the Mazda 6 2.2D SE Nav – a company car favourite – and the figures prove why.

For the £22,340 Mazda, you’ll pay £55 and £111 Benefit in Kind company car tax at the 20% and 40% rates respectively. Compare it to the less powerful, slower, less efficient and more polluting Ford Mondeo and you’ll save £3 and £111 per month.

The story is the same when pitching the Mazda 6 against the VW Passat. Again, less powerful, slower and not as efficient as the Mazda, you’ll pay an extra £2 or £4 in tax per month depending on what rate you’re taxed at – it sounds small, but over three years that’s another £624.

With excellent equipment specifications, stunning performance and amazing efficiency, the striking Skyactiv Mazda range could be for you, so why not give it a try?
